Last night I attended my weekly Positive Parenting class. Before I left CJ asked me where I was going.

"To learn to be a better mommy!" I cheerfully replied.

I got home in time to go in his room and kiss him good night. He asked me what I learned in my class.

I told him I learned that I need to be more patient and more cheerful and to be a good example. To which he replied,

"Yeah, like stop yelling at me so I can stop yelling back at you? And not to say (using his scariest growliest voice), 'CJ!. GET. DOWN. HERE. NOW!' and instead say (using his sweetest, sing-songy voice), 'Ceeeeee jaaaaaay. Please come heeeerrrrre.'"

Exactly. Sort of. Then he said, "And you're learning just to say 'good job CJ!' when I do something naughty instead of getting mad?"

This went on and on. He was doing an excellent job of pointing out all the wrong things I do while mothering him.

And just when I was feeling like this kid knows me all too well, he asked the most important questions of all: "Did you have a recycle bin in your class room? A garbage can? What color were they?"

I'm so glad he's giving you a performance review. You definitely need some goals to work towards--especially congratulating him when he does something naughty.

Yeah- what color was the bin? Take a picture of it, and I'll bet he forgets ALL about your so-called short comings as a discipliner!!! What a smart little fella!!!

Jamie,

Thanks for dropping in on my blog. I'm not so good with keeping up on the blogging world, but do check in about once a week. I saw you blog awhile ago through amanda's blog....i think? You and your family look great! BTW, you can totally pull of the bang look. You look so beautiful! It sounds like the class you are taking might come in handy. I think any little bit of good advice on parenting you can get, the better. I feel for you though, boys are hard. To be totally honest, I struggle (what seems to be daily) with Ethan (my six year old). I know that I love him, even on days that are hard. I wish all my love could make things easier, but it's a daily pursuit. So, best of luck!
I'll keep checking in every now and then to see how your fam is doing. Will you do me a favor? The next time you see Jill (your sister-in-law), give her a hug from me, and tell her hi? I just love her!

Keep up the great work...thanks for posting,

Jamie Nackos

Jamie...

I haven't ever read the book you mentioned. I love how they use the word "spirited" instead of other adjectives that come to mind:) I'll be sure to look into it. Thanks! And thanks for sending Jill my link. I know your kiddos mean the world to her, and she couldn't say enough about how much she loves them. As far as I am concerned, you have a super group with the Jacobsen's as family!

Take care! Happy parenting!
